It is important that the children learn that he or she is studying for himself or herself. Children feel that they only have to study just for the sake of giving exams. This feeling should be gone and it is necessary that we make them understand that studying is for their betterment and for their bright future. Tell them that if they study with whole heart they can also get a good job in future and have a better life. It is necessary that you discuss the subjects which your child likes and enjoy in the school and also try to make it more fun and interesting.

It important that the parents know continuous spoon feeding for the children won’t work. Children should think of the answers which they want on their own or at least try to look for it. Whenever they ask you anything do not immediately answer everything, let them think for the answers and you should also encourage the children to look for answers in books or on the internet. This will help in increase in their searching skills and allow the kids to think more and go out of the box to find their answers and clear their doubts.

My child is just 9 years old but is very conscious about her weight. she fears putting on weight so tries to minimize her intake. I think she is too small to have weight concerns and moreover she is not the heavier side also. Read More...
The most common mistakes parents do is offer food as reward or use it as a comfort to calm or pacify their children which is absolutely wrong and should not be done. I highly recommend to avoid giving deserts as a reward to the children for finishing their meal. If this is done they will not understand the importance of healthy food. They will consider sweets to be more important than the food. It is important that they spend their time doing physical activities so that their body has some exercise and remains fit. There are some weight gaining exercises which can also be done by consulting a health care provider.

Our children spend most of the time in their schools and apart from there either at home or in classes. Make sure that you know every detail what is happening with him, with whom he talks, who is his friend, with whom he has lunch and all such small details and also ask whether he feels anything strange and different or doesn’t feel good anytime. Just try to have a normal conversation. Make sure your child is under positive and safe surroundings to learn and study. Though schools are the safest places for our children still it is important for us to know every detail and take care of them.

You are really lucky that your child has a healthy weight and maintaining it is not really that difficult as you can continue with your routine intake of food what you give your child and additionally if your child is doing physical activities then it’s well and good. Weight can be balanced without any difficulty. I would like to suggest you to feed your child poultry, meat and fish in appropriate amount this will help in providing with proteins. Also adding beans and lentils in their diet will help maintaining their weight. Usually children like these things so I don’t think it will be hard to feed them that.

I understand that preschoolers lie but when school goers lie, this means a matter of concern. They do it knowingly and being aware of the consequences. My daughter just keeps on telling tales that she thinks we will believe. How can I stop her behavior? Read More...
Hi, lying is a nature of human beings and starting from toddlers, children, teenagers and even adults all of them lie. There is no one in this world who has not lied. I personally feel that if a child is lying then we should not overreact and do things which might scare the child more. It is important that we do not make the children feel that they are defective and immoral instead handle the situation lovingly and smartly, it is not only your child in the whole wide world who is lying. Handling situations with patience should be our main goal.

Make sure that he eats properly, add a balanced diet in your child’s meals which will help in improving his health and also help them do well in their exams. Eating healthy food will also make them increase their memory and they may not forget what is taught. Avoid giving the junk food as it can make the child a bit irritable, hyperactive and moody.

Fights start from the point of sharing kids are very possessive about their toys, books, clothes, shoes and many other things. If their baby sister or brother try to take it or play with their belongings they do not like it. In teenagers also such things are quite common when it comes to their independence. They get aggressive and overreact sometimes to gain parents attention. Teens show their aggressive nature by not taking the responsibility of their younger sibling. All the kids are moody and have different moods every time. These are not serious problems so do not worry.

Hi, when you are teaching your children the importance of the studying then also teach them the consequences which they have to face if they fail, they will have to repeat the same class again with the children who are younger to them. If they fail to do the homework then tell them the teacher might punish them in front of everyone which is not good. Remember that you should not force your child to study if he does not want to but don’t make it a habit that they ignore studying all the time.

The UNESCO Institute of Statistics estimates that a little over 2,00,000 Indian students travel abroad for higher education. Unsurprisingly, the top five destinations for Indian students, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, have some of the best and most popular universities in the world. Given modern Visa restrictions it is a telling sign of the high esteem that Indian students are held in by foreign universities. Despite the fact that the door to foreign universities is open to Indian students there are some development goals essential to ensure both admission and success abroad.

    1. Language Skills and Writing: When making a comparison between National boards and International boards in India, it is very obvious that there is a higher emphasis given to essay writing and language skills in International schools. This is done with good reason as foreign universities grade a large part of a student's academic career based on curriculum related essays that involve both in depth research and good quality academic writing.

    2. Research Skills: Foreign universities take plagiarism and originality very seriously. Very often a student may inadvertently use an idea or a quote without proper citation and fall foul of the rules of research and citation. International schools not only teach proper research and citation but also teach students effective ways of researching to ensure that any previously published idea has been given due credit. In addition there is a strong system in place to ensure that all instances of plagiarism are found out to ensure that students are always vigilant when writing essays and other assignments. RIMS International School ensures that its students are not only well trained in how to research, but are meticulous in citation and chasing a reference to determine the actual origin of quotations and ideas used in their essays and other coursework.

    3. Finding the Right Course: Very often students arrive at foreign universities only to discover that they have signed up for a course for which they are not well suited. This unfortunate situation can be blamed on a variety of reasons like bad advice, peer pressure to do a popular paper, not enough research about the course etc. However, the most important reason is usually that the student did not have sufficient opportunity to learn about options and guidance when choosing courses. RIMS teachers are experienced in helping their students explore the various options available to them for further study. In addition, RIMS’s low student-to-teacher ratio ensures that teachers can dedicate significant time to help students through one-on-one guidance.

    4. Thinking Out-of-the-box: One of the biggest criticisms of University education in this country is that there is little deviation from the prescribed syllabus and students rarely get to explore the boundaries of the subjects that they are studying. While Indian students have the desire, drive and intelligence to study abroad, it is important that they develop the ability to look into new areas of research for coursework as this is what gets them better grades as well as sets them on the path to recognition. RIMS International always encourages its students to think differently about problems, to research widely and to formulate ideas and theories that set students apart from the ones in other International Schools.

    5. Learning to be Independent: For students going overseas, this will be their first experience of not only living alone but of fending for themselves. Even children who have been to boarding school get used to the regimented lifestyle and find it difficult to adjust to the self-discipline and decision making of living abroad on their own. While students learn the most about being independent from their parents, schools can play a major role as well. At RIMS, we ensure that our students receive guidance but also learn to take decisions and responsibilities inside of the classroom, in their coursework and in non-academic subjects and projects.

Overseas education not only gives students an edge in their chosen careers, it teaches them to become different people, makes students independent and ensures that they are aware of their world. It is essential that any student choosing to study abroad covers all the basic knowledge and skill requirements so that they can concentrate on the higher aspects of their course and experience abroad. The five points above are essential to any student studying overseas and it is important that students have these inculcated through their formative years so that they are already experienced when they reach their University of choice. The main issue when you want to send your child to study in abroad is the financial issue. Be sure that you invest properly and be sure that your child will complete the course. I have seen parents who have invested so much in their child when they studied abroad but their children left the course incomplete saying that they could not cope up with the studies and all of the money invested was wasted. Wasting so much money is not fun, taking educational loan and can you guarantee that your child will pay the debts. Be sure that your child is fully prepared then only invest so much money.

What are the causes of aggressive behaviour in kids? How to deal with aggressive behaviour in kids? Is it possible to discipline aggressive kids?
To read the related article, click here. Read More...
I agree with you all of these can be the reasons for such aggressive behaviour. Mostly such kind of behaviour is seen due to the feeling of being insecure or also feeling unsafe and hence they try to remove their frustration, anger and fear on someone else just like what adults do. This kind of behaviour should be stopped or controlled before it gets out of control. Sometimes this kind of behaviour may lead in harming themselves physically or mentally. These matter can be sensitive at times and should be managed by proper guidance and maturity.

Is homework really needed? Why are kids not able to complete homework on time? How can parents help kids to deal with homework stress?
To read the related article, click here. Read More...
Homework earlier meant a part of study which should be done at home so that children could get a revision of what they have learnt in the school that day. But now homework involves a lot of time and energy and children are exhausted to the core. Even we parents are involved in it equally as there is so much to do. It is most of the times physically and mentally tiring. I have started planning and organising how to manage the homework schedule so that my child is not completely exhausted.

    Dear all,

My kid has this problem of cold and cough right from the time she joined school. Earlier she was a healthy baby without any problem but now every one or the other day she is down with some problem. 20 days back she was suffering so much with bronchitis and now again she got the same problem. I don't know how to avoid this dreadful thing. Being a mother i am unable to see her coughing so hard and heavy breathing. We a running after doctors but no use. I even stared home remedies which helped me to some extent. Please pour in your inputs about bronchitis allergy in kids, its treatments or home remedies.

    Thanks. Read More...
Hi, I totally understand what you are trying to say as I have been through what you are going through right now. In school there are several kids who have cold, who are sneezing, coughing and what not. Children sit together, play together and even eat together and hence it is obvious that they are going to catch infection from their sick friend. After few days you might find that your healthy child is sneezing and coughing. Usually if your child gets cold it can last for 7 to 14 days maximum. By using some over the counter medicines like crocin, aspirin according to the age which can help them get rid of the cold and cough.

Is homework necessary for children? Why do children hate doing homework? How can children learn to complete their homework on their own?
To read the related article, click here. Read More...
Firstly the most important thing is that you should help your child to be organised and it is our responsibility to teach them to be organised as they will never be organised unless you tell them to be. Once you make them follow some rules they will automatically start following it and make it a bit fun so that they don’t feel captured. Keep a check on them occasionally and appreciate them for being organised and following the rules. Help him giving a healthy and distraction free surrounding with no noise and distractions around. This will help him concentrate more and enjoy more if you sit along with him if he wishes so.
